Hi, My name is NICK SUGIMOTO and I'd like to introduce our company to you. I've been working in the music industory for over thirty years. Most of this time has been spent as one of the leading design engineers for the leading brands of guitars and basses worldwide, inclueding Ibanez Fender Ephiphone and many more. This work has given me the chance to work directly with many of the music industry leading artist for the past three decades. I Established my Company "Sugi Musical Instruments Ltd." in 2002. I now focus my energy on using the knowledge learned from these artists to bring you the best possible guitars and basses under the SUGI brand name.

Makoto "Nick" Sugimoto
President Chief Design Engineer Master Craftsman

Nick has been working in the stringed instrument industry for more than thirty five years. In 1976 after graduating from the university, he went to United States for 1 year and studied guitar repair from Kunio Sugai owner of Performance Guitar Co., also at Hoshino USA. After he came back to Japan he joined Fujigen Inc. from 1978 until 1992 and Fujigen Hirooka Inc. from 1993 when Fujigen Hirooka Inc. was established until 2002 . During this time he worked for 23 years in R&D, custom guitar building and engineering. He has been the main force at Fujigen in the creation and engineering of all Fujigens design and manufacturing for twenty years. His designs and abilities have been indispensable to customers like FENDER USA and JAPAN, IBANEZ, EPIPHONE, YAMAHA, GRECO, ROLAND, FERNANDES, CASIO, TOBIAS, and many other OEM customers and of cource Fujigen's own brands Heartfield and FgN. He has worked at the Fender Custom Shop in 1990 to help in the design work for a joint venture with Fender Musical Instruments and Fujigen Inc.

In his 23 years at Fujigen he has written up more than 1,500 engineering spec. sheets and engineering packages for manufacturing. You can see a lot of his ideas in the catalogs of the brands listed above.

Nick has worked for three different Custom Shops during his years in the music industry. First he worked for the "GRECO Order Made section" for two years. Second he established the "Fender Japan Order Made section" where he made or produced more than 500 guitars. Third he established the "Fujigen Custom Shop". He has been the General Director of Fujigens Custom Shop for the last five years.

In the 2002 Nick established "Sugi Musical Instruments Ltd."







Isami Hagiwara
Master Craftsman

After graduating from the ESP Guitar Craft Academy Hagiwara worked at the Fujigen factory for 7 years before joinning Sugi Guitars. He is incharge of all woodworking aspects of the guitars.
Hagiwara is responsible for setting all quality standards for our guitars.



Yuichi Kimura
Master Craftsman

Kimura has a degree in Industrial engneering and from his first woking experience was able to combine this with his passion for playing guitar.
Kimura worked for many years in guitar R&D at the Fujigen factory where his design work was used by brand such as Fender, Ibanez, Casio and many others.
Kimuras obsession for perfection shows in his assembly and setup of each and every Sugi Instrument.



Yoshinori Koshihara
Wood Shop

Koshihara graduated from a Recording Engneering school and his first woking experience was FUJIGEN Inc.
Koshihara worked for 16 years in guitar Engeneering at the Fujigen factory where his design work was used by brands such as Fender, Ibanez and many others.
His hoby is model cars and he loves fine detail work with his hand.



Ryugo Sugimoto
AssemblyShop

Ryugo is the newest member of Sugi guitars. After moving to Southern California and graduating from College in San Diego he returned to Japan in 2005 and joined us. Ryugo works both in the woodshop and assembly shop.



Masato Anan
Wood Shop

Masato is the newest member of Sugi guitars. After graduating Shinshu Univ.
The most youngest menber. He joined us 2010.
He was bone in Kyusyu Iland and moved to Big City.
